Thumbs up Just Finished Clothier's Book

Wow, I couldn't put that book down. Has anyone else read it? I was looking for something to read in the local library, and it looked interesting. I didn't realize that it was written by the often quoted author of the Flying Dog Press webpage.
Guess it was just my good fortune that our local library just got it in, I was the first person to check it out.
It was a little easier for me to read, I guess it seemed more like someone I knew was talking. Warning to sensitive folks, it has some very tender moments in it, but it is well worth reading!
It is not really a step by step answer book, it is more of encouraging people to make an effort to understand their pets. Also how to accept and incorporate what your dog is trying to tell you. Excellent.

LOL - which one?

The new one? "Bones Would Rain from the Sky" - I've heard it's wonderful!

That's it Julie "If a Dog's Prayer's Were Answered -Bones Would Rain From the Sky"
I didn't know that she had other books - but now if I see them I will be sure to read them.
I think my babies are glad I read it too, even though reading the book kinda made me feel guilty for the times I have pushed my pets around. The book talks about popular training methods of the past (and present), the ones that offer quick results, but don't help the relationship grow.
Of course most of them work because your pet is scared, upset, or hurt. The story about Wendy and Chance with the shock collar was heartbreaking. This book doesn't have to be back to the library until after the new year - I think I will read it again.

She wrote a book about jumping, and of course several articles and booklets.

Part of the story of Wendy and Chance is here:

Funny this should come to the top again. Suzanne Clothier is the guest author on DogRead this month (May 2003): www.dogread.com

I just finished the book and truly enjoyed it (someone recommended it to me on another forum). If you are looking for a "recipe" book that will help you with specific issues this is not it. However, I found it wonderful in that it encouraged you to look at situations from the point of your dog. It did have some "tender moments" that broke my heart regarding what dogs can be subjected to in the name of training. I would encourage any animal lover to read it. It's a warm book that reminds you how blessed you are to share your life with dogs.

I'm reading this book now. Its really made me stop and evaluate my relationships with my dogs. Its also helped tremendously in getting Lara to be more relaxed on lead. I think this is the single most compelling book I've read so far on the subject of dogs!
