Honestly, I read books that aren't about dogs, too....
Anyway, I read From Baghdad, With Love a while back about a puppy named Lava that gets adopted as a mascot by Marines in Iraq. The book tells the story of how they managed to keep Lava alive and, ultimately, get him to America. The sequel, From Baghdad to America, is now out and I picked it up over the weekend. The author, Jay Kopelman, is Lava's 'Dad', and he writes about how Lava effectively saved him and helped him learn how to get through life as a civilian again.
I'm about halfway through and am enjoying it. If you have a loved one on active duty, it definitely gives some insight on PTSD and how it affects the soldiers coming home. They should each have a puppy to love...
