Need Opinion on book for Fear and Dog Aggression

I have been reading some threads on good books. Went to the recommended website, www.dogwise.com and found a book called "Changing People Changing Dogs- Positive Solutions for Difficult Dogs" By Dee Ganley and another "Fight!A Practical Guide to the Treatment of Dog-Dog Aggression" By Jean Donaldson

I saw other recommendations on this website like: "Culture Clash", "The Other End of The Leash" and "Bones Would Rain from the Sky." I want to get the book(s) right for us.

Bosco has major Dog Aggression and fear aggression. We have already seen two behavourilsts and don't agree with one of them. The other one we worked with didn't help any. I really need help, because he has gotten alot worse and worried for him so any assistance would be appreciated. We are doing NILF All The Time!! too, which has helped alot indoorswith us, but that's it.

Thanks for any help

No problem! I actually met her this weekend at the Boxer Bash that I attended through our local rescue. She was very nice and knowledgable.

The book on aggression by Jean Donaldson would be good. I haven't read it, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend anything by her.

I read the book Fight! by Jean Donaldson and thought it was very good. It describes in detail how you would go about rehabilitating your dog. The behaviours she addresses are: "the Tarzan dog" (ie a dog with little social manners due to lack of socialization), proximity sensitive dogs (ie aggressive when approached by other dogs), bullies, dogs with play deficit skills, and compulsive aggression (for ex those bred for aggression). I'm not sure which category you fit in, perhaps proximity sensitive aggression? It's a quick read, and very technical. It seems to have been geared towards dog trainers but definitely applicable to us regular dog owners.

The book by Brenda Aloff is also amazing, however much pricier, but it's a huge book with a lot of information in there. I highly recommend that one.

If your dog has some leash aggression, Feisty Fido by Patricia McConnell is also very good and a short read.

The culture clash, the other end of the leash, etc are all good books too, but don't deal specifically with aggression. However they do have good advice for day to day dealings/training with your dog.

I wish you all the best and hope you can find help for your boy.
