Training Secrets for Boxers
Anyone see the new Magazine from the editors of Dog Fancy? Its training methods for Boxers. There are some real beauties in there. I havent had a chance to read it yet because ive been to busy looking at the pics. BTW we picked it up at Petsmart.

I saw it, but didn't read it either. I'd be interested to know how their training tips would be boxer specific. If you get a chance to read it please keep us posted!

Re: Training Secrets for Boxers
I picked it up just before Christmas and its not too bad. Overall, its very puppy focused but it does have some good articles on how to work with boxers on common problems such as chasing, pulling, aggression, etc. One of the articles I really liked was about 5 games to play with your boxer to help teach them manners and proper behavior. It was worth buying and reading for me given that I have an 8 month old puppy that still has a lot to learn!
There are one or two parts of the magazine that many members here won't like, particularly regarding different collars that can be used if you have a boxer that pulls badly when on a leash. Its not discussed in detail but just a warning for you to not be surprised and skip over those sections if need be.
Overall, its got a lot of good stuff in it, particularly if you have a puppy or a rescue that needs training. The pictures alone make it a great read as well!

Re: Training Secrets for Boxers
I glanced very briefly through this in the checkout line at the pet store; from what I saw, it wasn't really Boxer-specific; some of the articles were applicable to any dog, others to any medium-to-large, strong, athletic dog. (Really, though, I wouldn't expect any different - Boxers are not unique in their training needs. )

Re: Training Secrets for Boxers
I saw it in the petstore when I went it to but Bruce's stocking fillers, and bought it mainly for the pictures. Just as well, as I've been saddened by some of the training techniques it refers to, including recommending the use of prong collars and other negative training methods. It even says that using a harness with your boxer is pointless as he will know when you are not using the harness and pull, so the only way to train him to walk on the lead is by the use of negative training techniques (including force) when he is a puppy...
All in all, IMHO, I would say save your money and spend your time looking at the BW galleries if you want to see some nice pictures of boxers!

LucNesbitt,
I went to 2 pet stores to try to find this magazine today. Could you elaborate on these games a bit (I have a 3 month old)?
