Litter Box Lover
I have a 21 week old fawn boxer, PJ. He just will not stay out of the cat's litter box ( I dont have to clean it out!). What can I do to help keep him out of the litter box. Also, he eats my cat's food. Usually I keep the cat's food out in a big bowl in a large supply for a few days (try to keep it hidden from PJ, but he always finds it). Is there anything i can do to keep him away from her food and still leave her food out 24/7 ( i have had her for 7 years and have always fed her like that).

Good Luck! Pokey is 10 months old and he knows he is not supposed to get into the litter box, but he SNEAKS! (I call it the dessert box) I seldom catch him in the act, but it is easy to figure out what he has been up to when he looks at you so innocent and has clumps of cat litter hanging from those big jowls!
I keep the cats food and litter box in the laundry room and keep it baby gated, the cats jump over the gate. As long as it stays up, Pokey will not go in there. My children aren't always good at latching it back and that is when the sneaking occurs.
Hang in there!

I put the cats food on top of Darbys kennel. It works good because Darby does not try to get up there at all. As for the cat litter box problem I have never seen Darby get into it or seen any evidence that she has. But I have the litter boxes that have the lids on them so maybe that is why she does not do it. I hope you find something to solve the problem

I keep my cats food on a dresser in my bedroom, her bed is also up there. As far as the litter box goes, I have that in a bathroom that is off of the bedroom (not for guests) and a 2 foot tall piece of plywood that leans across the doorway. It is at an angle so the cat can enter with no problems and it also keeps the dog out. It's easily stepped over. We have not had any problems with this set-up.

When we had cats we found a way to separate the litter box from the dogs. We have a basement landing where we put the litter box on one side and their food bowl on the other. We put a latch hook on the door that would only allow the cats through that way the dogs could'nt get to either. I think that is the most disgusting thing that the dogs could do, it made me sick. Good Luck

Jackson never bothers with the cat box but I had a Keeshond (Kemo, oh I miss so) who truely loved the cat box. When ever we went out, you could be sure that somehow he would manage to get into it no matter how many 'barricades" you put in the way. Kind of gross eh!!

I had the same problem with Major. The cat's food is on the counter. He would stick his head into the opening of the cat box and find the tootsie rolls. Gross! Have you noticed if he is after his own tootsies? Major acquired a taste for the cats and his own when he was about your guys age. Now that he's a 'mature' 1, he hasn't bothered with either. Maybe your guy will outgrow it too.

We have our cat's food bowls & litter box in the laundry room. The door is always shut & has a cat door to give the kitties access, but keep the "kitty krunchies" out of reach of the pups. No more messes!
