Question Strange bark

Hi! My boxer makes the strangest noise when she tries to bark. In fact she doesn't bark like normal dogs. It sounds more like a high pitched squeel. I've heard her bark only a handful of times, but when she gets excited or sees dogs playing she lets out an ear piercing "eeeaaaahhhhhhhh" that fluxuates in tone, and sounds like a kids voice going through puberty. Some people think she sounds like a goat. This is my first Boxer so I don't know if this is common. Does anyone know anything about this?

My guy is just about 4 months, but he seems to bark normally higher pitched than my Rottie, he also barks with a sort of a grow in there too. Hopethis helps.

Is your boxer still a puppy? The tone in their bark also chances as they mature. When ours was little and tried to bark I used to laugh so hard cause she sounded so funny. Now that she is almost 2, she has a more mature bark and it sounds more normal. (although she still doesn't bark much). If it is the woo woo song, it will also sound more normal with age and you will understand why it is called the "woo woo" song!

thanks for the replies. I don't beleive this is a woo woo song. she only does it when she sees strangers walk by the house or dogs walking by. She is full grown and almost 3 yrs old. Its seems like she tries to bark and it hard to get it out. She'll open her mouth wide and hold it open and the noise come out.
The reason I'm concerned is that she is a rescue that I've had for about 3 months now. I'm wondering if her vocal oddity is due to some sort of past abuse.

Terribly sorry. I misunderstood your post. For some reason I thought it was a puppy. Forgive me.

I'd say perhaps there could have been damage, perhaps trachea damage from a choke chain or something, collar jerking, etc. You might want to take the dog to your vet and see if they can do x-rays or something to determine if there is some damage there and if so, how extensive. If for no other reason than to ease your mind, if nothing can be done about what has happened.

Again, my apologies for misreading your post.
