He "goes #2" every 10 mins as soon we get to the park!

Hi guys,

I'm having a really weird issue with my boxer and I have no idea why he does it.

Ok so we get him to the park, and as soon he gets there, he will try to go pooping every 10 mins or so.. I can understand at the beginning he might be excited to be there and go like 2 or 3 times before he is "empty", but he does not stop! Of course after the 3rd attempt he will actually be empty, but it doesn't keep him from getting into position and trying and trying until some transparent liquid comes out (which I think is some liquid form the anal gland or something)..He will keep on trying until we leave the park.. and believe me, we tried and waited for over 2 hours and that didnt slow him down.
I already spoke to a vet and he also said it could be excitement, we did a bunch of tests and he is as healthy as a dog can be..
Sometimes I get a bit shamed cause he would get into position and stay there for like 30 seconds trying and trying and then nothing comes out and people start looking at me like "arent you going to pick that up?" But they dont realize theres nothign there! (Or maybe they are just looking at me wondering if my dog is sick or something)..
I tried to bring him more often to the park so he would get used to it, stop taking to the park to see if he "forgets" that.. but nothing works.. When I walk with him, he behaves normally and dont attempt to stop more often than he needs to..

Is he trying to "mark" his territory in a weird way!?? Is there something wrong with him? Has anyone experienced the same..?

BTW he is "fixed".. not sure if that could have somethign to do with it.

Any light would be really appreciated!

Thanks,
Marcelo

It's not uncommon for them to go frequently at the dog park. The excitement seems to get the bowels moving. Your pup seems to carry it to the extreme, but I wouldn't think it's anything to worry about. It's just a little embarrassing.

Since he is healthy, not constipated and glands seem to be expressing normally it does seem to be behavioral. I would redirect him when he starts to get into position when you know he's empty. When you seem him start to squat just call him to you, thrown his favoirte toy or give him an obedience command. Do different things to break his focus on the marking. Hopefully over time he'll be more interested in other things and give up on the constant squatting.

He could be fecal marking. Dogs don't typically fecal mark but it is a common behavior in wild canids and every once in a while you get a dog that does it. Just like with urine marking, redirecting the dog when you see him sniffing about for a spot is a good idea.
