Why why why???

Kenadie is such a good puppy. She is a lil lazy, a lot silly and so so sweet, but recently she has found the cat litter box and it seems to be her fave treat! I clean it out regularly, but she still goes crazy! She knows she is not allowed upstairs until bedtime, but she is so sneaky she goes the minute my back is turned! Ive read online that dogs love cat poop, but YUCK Yuck Yuck! even if the box is clean, she digs and throws litter everywhere! Scolding doesn't work, not looking at her doesn't work, putting her outside doesn't work and getting rid of the cat is not an option. Now she does it and hides...

Ive seen something at walmart (a vitamin) that helps pups from eating their own poop, do you think it would work for cat poop too? Im desperate!

Once they get that tastey treat (yuck!) they dont seem to break that habit. Atleast not with my two. I purchased a "Booda Dome" litter box, has a dome lid on it, and it has solved the problem completely. It's built so a dog can't stick his head in and grab a nugget. Plus it has cut down, almost eliminating the smell and the stray litter pieces outside the box.

I'd suggest investing in one of these. Many here swear by it!

Ahhh....kittie crispies!!! We have had probs in the past keeping dogs out of the "treat box" and so has my mom. She has little dogs, so my dad built a box to put the cat litter box in. I have used an automatic cat box before...tucks the poop away right after the cat uses the box. I guess maybe trying to put the cat box somewhere where the cat can get to it but the dog can't...maybe using a cat door or baby gate. The supplement might work, but i don't know about it being safe for cats. This could be a tough one....

No, it will only stop them from eating their own poop.

You need to prevent you pup from accessing the litterbox. Use a baby gate, cat door or use a rope tied to the door knob, so that the door can only open a couple of inches, so the cat can get in but the dog can't.

My 3 dogs all love kittie poop and will race each other to the litter box if allowed. Our box has a lid on it but the dogs can still put their heads in it if they want to. We keep the box in our bathroom and when we leave the house, the bathroom door is closed so that the dogs can't get to the cat or the box (our bathroom has a door on each end-we don't shut the cat in the bathroom only!). When we come home, the first thing we do is check the box before the dogs can get to it. Of course if she uses it at night and the smell wakes the dogs up its fair game Now if I could just keep them from finding where the outside kittie goes when she doesn't use her box!

We had the same problem with Gus. We finally got a litter box with a topper and a kitty door. The cats dont seem to mind and Gus cant get his big fat head through the kitty door(not that he didnt try).
