House Training in Cold Weather

Our 8 week old boxer does okay most of the time with pottying outside. However, if it is cold and rainy or windy, she fights it. We will take her outside and force her to stay out with us for several minutes (walking her around the yard, putting her in the grass) only to have her promptly pee or poop on the floor when we come in. She wears a sweater when it's chilly out (and a jacket when it's needed), is there anything else we can do? I'm concerned with the very cold winter fast approaching!

Patio

Bailey was house training when it was cold and rainy here too and I recall saying that the next puppy I got would be in the summertime so I didn't have to deal with it haha. She began eliminating on the side of the yard before it go too cold, then she didn't want to go out very far so she would eliminate on the patio because she was out of the rain. She eventually went back to the side of the yard when it got warm again. I would try it under some type of cover even though it may not be where you prefer it's likely more preferable than the inside of the house. Good luck.

Thank you! Sadly, we don't have any covered areas outdoors.. The only covering there is is her dog house and the very small awning overhang on it. She has huddled under there to pee once or twice, and has gone in the dog house to poop. I may try taking her to the north side of the house, she may be more shielded from the wind there.. Maybe an umbrella? LOL

She doesn't even like tromping into the wet grass and will often go on the rock driveway instead.

I shudder to think of how she'll react the first time she steps out into snow up to her neck!

Our puppy doesn't much like going outside when it's wet either. We have a covered patio and if it's raining he'll usually stand there with his front two feet in the grass or flower bed and his back two feet on the concrete while he pees. Usually we can get him to go out in the yard to poo -he makes it quick though. There are times when he'd like to scoot right back in without doing anything, but I've found that if stay out there until he performs, he does. Can you make a small covered area with a tarp or something?

Funny how they love to play in the water/hose, but don't like cold wet grass when it's time to tinkle.

So ironic and correct on that one Mesquite. My dog could play in the sprinkler for hrs but to heck with that cold wet grass which we seem to have an abundance of here in north Texas lately. She won't hardly go out the door when she sees its raining.
