Should we rehome our Boxer? Pls help - long

It’s great that AABR thinks they can help. I also work with a Boxer Rescue & I just want to warn you that placing a dog like this can take awhile. The fact that she is only 11months is in your favor but think of it this way, you know & love her & she’s still too much for you, so imagine how an outsider will feel. There is no shortage of homeless boxers so most people would rather take the dog with no issues rather than a deaf dog with behavioral issues. It will take a very specific & special type of person to sign up for such a “project”. That’s not to say the right home won’t come along but just be prepared to be patient.

Also while she is waiting for her new home do your best to work with her on some of her issues so that she will be easier to place. There are a lot of great books on aggression & you could also start with NILIF. I don’t really recommend most of Cesar Milan’s methods though.

I wish you only the best cassie. This has got to be very hard on you, but I do have to agree with everyone on rehoming Talulah. You have to put the babies first, which I know you are. If Talulah would decide she wanted the toy the baby had the outcome could be devastating. For her to knock your son to the ground and break skin through his shirt for his toy then walk away is awful aggressive. I am so sorry this is happening to a great boxer mom as you are. My thoughts and prayers are with you on your decision. Best of luck ~ Marie

Thank you all for your advice and suggestions. I cross posted my story in the yahoo deaf dog group that I am a member of. I had 2 responses. 1 response was from the Second Chance Boxer Rescue from a very kind woman that initially said she may be able to help, then said after careful thought I should re home Talulah. The second was from a behaviorist that said I am not presenting myself as the alpha dog, and need to fix myself to fix the situation. As re homing Talulah is the last thing I want to do, I have contacted a local behaviorist to have her evaluated - kind of a last ditch effort. I tried to broach the topic with my 4 yr old, and his response was " We can't find Talulah a new home, she is our family, and I love her" a couple minutes later he told me "Don't worry Mom, when she gets older she will be better" - He is not making this any easier - lol. I am waiting to hear back from the beahviorist and although it may be foolish, I just need to know in my heart we tried everything before we gave up on her. I completely feel like I have done something wrong, and now Talulah and my children have to suffer for it. The boxer rescue that contacted me said they currently have a 3 week wait to get dogs into foster homes - I just cannot imagine Talulah living with another family. I will keep you all updated, and truly appreciate your kind words and support. Also to the poster that inquire - she of course is spayed!!! :-)

Doing that last ditch effort is commendable! I had a situation with my staffy and was looking to rehome her. My last ditch effort has made her a permanent member of my pack!

If you are comfortable in taking that ditch, then please go for it! If you have another resource, the behaviorist, use it! I think everyone can agree that she would be best not having to be rehomed, but what's best is whatever you and your family can handle. And if you have just a little bit of energy and patience left, then use it with vigor!

You also have the support here if it all works out and she can be rehabbed into a great member of your growing familiy. You also have the support if she still needs more work than what you can give and rehoming is the best option for all of you.

Good luck with the behaviorist. I do hope rehab is the best and productive option!

And Talulah, pay attention in class!!! Make Mommy and Daddy proud!
