Question why won't they play?

Dempsey is a fun loving boxer, who likes to play. If he sees other dogs, he wants so badly to play with them, but some dogs seem standoffish or scared. A case in point: my brother in law has two bulldogs. Dempsey has played with the older of the two since we brought him home- (the younger is a recent addition). The other day, we got together for some doggy play time and things just weren't the same. Dempsey was interested in the new dog, but was more interested in playing the traditional hit and run with his old pal. Here's the thing, the older bulldog (who's only 3.5) got mean. He started a little scuffle, and ended up with some minor scratches and scrapes for being so rude. Dempsey pretty much left him alone after that. I don't know if the other bulldog took a cue, but he became standoffish as well. I know it was three males playing together, but dempsey has spent almost his entire two years playing with Mac (the older BD). He's older now, but why would these guys no longer want to play? Is he too overbearing and hyper, or is it because he's no longer a puppy?

Re: why won't they play?

Some dogs don't want to play with my two, they are rather boisterous and not all dogs enjoy playing that way.

Re: why won't they play?

I think the bulldogs are going through their own issues. It is a new pack and they are not totally comfortable yet. I would give it time. Of course not all breeds can tolerate Boxers but if the bulldog was fine in the past I am sure he will come around as soon as his home life feels more stable.
