Thumbs up Stella just Graduated 2nd Level Obedience

Just wanted to write a quick post to brag about Stella

She graduated her second level of obedience classes last night! She started the beginner classes @ 6 months old and moved onto the advanced @ 8 months old. She is now 10 months old. The 1st level of classes were very basic and kind of slow. It was good to start though, as it got used to Stella paying attention in a group and around other dogs. The 2nd level of classes were great! It was a lot of off leash and using lots of distractions. I am really proud of how well Stella did through out.

When it came down to graduation last night, the first exercise was sit stay off leash while we were at the other end of the room (a good 30+feet). She was doing great, but about 30 seconds in, the GSD beside her went to attack her! He started just to bark at her then lunged right at her teeth bearing looking like he wanted to bit. She sat right there and stared at him not knowing what to do. Finally all was back under control and the GSD had to stay in an opposite corner and on leash the rest of the class. Needless to say, he did not graduate. I felt she was a bit distracted for the rest of the exercises but did great none the less.

Next classes available to take are competition classes; both obedience and agility. We’re going to take the summer off and she is going to be spayed in July. We’ll continue practicing and in October are going to start beginner agility! Really looking forward to it

Thanks for reading!

Way to go Stella! Congrats on a job well done! And a special wiggle and nose bump for ignoring that irrating GSD. They can be a bit snippy sometimes. You were such a good girl not to react. You knew you wouldn't graduate, so you kept your cool. Very, very mature for a gal your age!

Good job! Ignoring the misbehaving classmates is very hard, even for the skin kids

I would love to be able to report the same in a few months about Harley.

Congratulations Stella that is excellent! You must have been so proud of her for ignoring the other dog! My Boy just graduated from Grade 1 and he had to do a down stay for 3 minutes with me sitting on a chair away from him and he also had a dog next to him who kept getting up and being distracting, like your girl he merely looked at him as if to say whats your problem?! Way to go boxers!!!

Congratulations, Stella, graduate of Level 2! The ability to focus on the handler when another dog nearby is distracting will be very helpful in agility. Enjoy your summer vacation and have fun with the classes in the fall.
