I second Gary's suggestions. If you can find a club or training facility, that is a great way to start.
Go to trials and watch. Find a place to sit near someone knowledgeable who is commenting to their companion about the runs, and listen.
You can start to get your dog ready to take agility classes. Work on really good sit and down stays, especially with distractions. Develop a really good recall, but you don't need (or want) a perfect sit in front of you. You want the dog to come running to you, and then you get out a tug toy and have a short tug party! You can also train your dog to touch a target, like a margarine tub top, or a yogurt carton top. This is helpful when you start training the dog to move away from you.
