Trial time again!

J.C. and I are going to a UKC obedience trial this weekend. Hopefully we will earn a UKC Companion Dog title.

Almost did it. Qualified 2 out of 4 times, too bad you need 3 to get a title. J.C. seemed to develop a problem with the Recall Over The High Jump exercise. He did it o.k. the first time then refused to even move out of the sit the second time. Today was just the opposite, refused the to even move the first time, did it fine the second time. I blame myself though, because if I had read the rules more carefully, I would have realized that I can use a verbal and a hand signal in UKC. This is what I did on his last run and he came to me right away. Would it have helped in his 2 runs where he didn't move, to also give a hand signal? Who knows? Maybe not, but I really think it would have made the difference between earning a title this weekend and having to enter the next trial coming up in January. Oh well, I STILL got to take the BEST DOG home!

Congratulations , you still got 2 legs toward your title, which is way better than having no legs. Where was the trial, and where will the January trial be held?

Thank you! The trial was held at Tails Up dog training center in Burnsville. Kind of a small place but UKC trials don't seem to attract the huge crowds that the AKC ones do. Of course the fact that there was an AKC trial going on somewhere else and it was the opening weekend of deer season may have kept the numbers down a bit too. Who knows? It was a nice trial and the people there were super nice.

Congrats on two legs at least! Two is better than one. I'm glad to hear J.C. is feeling better about obedience.

Where do you find the UKC show listings? I've been trying to keep an eye on the ukc website, but they never seem to have any shows posted for the area. I didn't even know there was one this month . . .

Thank you! The trial in January is listed on the UKC website. It would seem that the mixed breed club is the one that holds most of these trials so it might pay to check out their site too. I didn't realize that the January trial was in Hugo, I thought it would be in Burnsville again.
