Question Need Some Info (Adoption)

Here is my situation at the moment. I have been looking into the boxer breed for a little while now and I am really wanting to introduce the breed into my life. I have already found a breeder that I would feel comfortable adopting from and she actually has a litter planned for this coming September. But I have also considered adopting from a rescue organization because I know that there are tons of boxers that have already ended up in shelters and rescues all around the world who would love to have a forever home of their own.

As I was searching around on the internet earlier this morning I ran across a 6 month old white male who is actually in a foster home through a rescue organization here in TN. And the sad part about all this is he ended up in a high kill animal shelter because his previous family thought that he was deaf which was not the case at all HE CAN HEAR!!!

So the question I have is...how does the adoption process work? I have never adopted a pet before so I am pretty uneducated when it comes to the whole thing. I know the first step will be contacting the organization, but I am still trying to figure out what I want to do and I am still talking to my bf about it at the same time. But I was just wanting to know how the process works when adopting through a rescue organization.

You fill out an application that asks you everything under the sun. They need to know the daily working of your household so they can match you with the approriate dog. Then they come for a home visit. They aren't looking to make sure you are perfectly clean, they want to look for hoarders and fighters. Also just to see the general layout, see where you plan to keep the dog when you are gone. See if you have a fence - which is a deal breaker for some dogs as they are known to bolt or extremely high energy. Then the either accept you or deny you, which I don't think the tell you until they go back and review everything. And then they start looking for a match.

Thanks for the info it was really helpful. That was the general idea I had about it but was not 100% sure since I have never went through a rescue before.
