It's called kennel blindness, and being realistic is a skill these people don't possess.

I know plenty of reputable breeders with the attitude that everything is a show prospect. It's the consumer that ends up needing to be the realistic one, and not take the breeders word for it. Unfortunately, most people new to the sport don't know what to look for and end up with a great pet but a sub-par showdog.

A realistic breeder expect all pet quality puppies, and hopes that one or two end up nice enough to be showable. An unrealistic one expects them all to be showable....unless they turn out to not be. Big difference.
I don't know that I'd necessarily consider this particular issue to be a "red flag", but if you are going to get into showing, for your own sanity, find someone who is detached from this person/litter and knows how to evaluate puppies to help you pick one.
