I was thinking about leaving Mona in the back yard, since the average temp in Denver is about 65-75F this week, but I read that she can harm herself more in the backyard, than by being in a crate.
I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving mine with full run of the back yard either, our kennel is more secure. No one is allowed in the kennels except for the dogs which lowers the risk of something being left behind they can get hurt on (and it's much easier to do a safety check of the kennel than the whole yard). Of course insect bites/stings are still a risk but I feel they're not enough of a risk for me to keep the dogs crated during the day if weather permits them to be outside.

And I would never be in a position where she wouldn't be crated during the day, so am I never supposed to have a dog because of this?? I'm sure I speak for many when I say that I hope us working moms and dads are not being judged poorly because we have to crate our little ones up in order to make a living...
I don't think anyone is being judged, just offered other options. There are plenty of ways to get around keeping a puppy/dog crated all day even for those who work...as you've already pointed out, daycare is just one of the options. Until your puppy is old enough for daycare, there are other ways of getting your puppy out more often.
