I love camping with Clover!
Here a a few MUST HAVE'S:

1.) A tie out
2.) A doggie first aid kit
3.) toys
4.) food
5.) Bottled water from home (believe it or not, but water taste different at different places - Clover would not drink the water when we went camping the first time)
6.) Water/food bowl
7.) blanket for night time

WE put Clover's tie out, close enough she could go in the tent, under the picnic table, to the tree's for shade, and into her own tent (yes she has her own tent), but far enough away she couldn't get to close to the fire. Back to Clover own tent, it's really cute, but it's out of our tent, so during the day she can go in and out to rest if she doesn't want to nap on the ground, to get out of the sun, eat in..etc. and it work out great if we needed her "out of the way", it was kinda like her kennel. During the night it goes into our tent for her to sleep in if she wants, or to store her toys in. She does have her own blanket and pillow. She also had her own smaller cooler - she wasn't interrested in eating much, but having canned food helped. We also have a special collar just for camping that has a flashlight attached to it, for nighttime walking (you can always tell where she is on her tie out, and you won't need your own flashlight when walking with them at night). I would make sure her rabies, and other tags are on her collar, but as far as anyone at any of the National parks I've been to asking to see a certificate, that hasn't happened yet. Check the trails, we go camping in the Southern CA mountains as well and some trails don't allow dogs.
Clover loved to eat ice cubes, and play all day! She would get a little restless at night when the wolves would start, but other than that she loved exploring. Watch on the tie out though, she had a habit of getting herself stuck around something! Oh yes, we would be an old sheet/blanket under the picnic table for her to lay on. And bring a sweater for him to wear at night because it does get chilly.
Where are you going camping? I love the Sierra's and Josuha Tree!
