Cleft palate and palatoschisis seem to be synonymous; I looked at the dictionary in
http://www.drburkland.com/dictionary.html where I found the following definition:
cleft palate=A groove or division in the roof of the mouth, caused by the incomplete fusion of the palate during embryonic development. It may extend throughout the entire palate. Also known as palatoschisis.
I also found the following information:

It seems to be a genetic disorder connected with a A VITAMIN deficiency
