If he's not showing ANY ribs then he's probably a few pounds overweight to be honest. You want the last 1-2 ribs showing with a tucked in waist. What does your vet say weight wise?
My boy came from 80 pound dad and 75 pound mom and is only 67 (was also the biggest) so it really just depends. Yes parents can contribute to weight but so can previous genetics (grandparents, etc) also without knowing if the parents were overweight it's hard to say and it's only one factor of many to determine size.
They typically grow up the first year and out the second year. By 2-3 years old they're typically done growing. He more than likely won't get a whole lot bigger at this point. Maybe another pound or two but if you cannot see ribs at this point I, personally (without seeing him), wouldn't advise that.
