Yes, you do teach it. It's called "stacking." A lot of it is just moving the dog into the correct position while standing. There are some videos on YouTube of dogs learning to stack.... here are a few clicker training videos that I've found, a few of them are boxers, but the dachshund and heeler videos you might also find helpful.
