Great stories, everyone!
Piper Ann almost wasn't mine-it came down to either me or one of the staff at the shelter. She has seniority of me because she was paid staff and I was a volunteer, but her boyfriend told her she couldn't have another dog, and so I got to adopt Piper. I felt bad for the staffer, so I asked what she had been planning to name the puppy to add it into consideration for what I would name her. The staffer said she was going to name her "Pandra" after the fawn god of frolic. I thought "Pandra" sounded too much like "Pandora," and I didn't want my new puppy to unleash a bit ol' box of evil onto my life, but Pan plays the pipes so, "Piper Ann" it was.
