Re: Champ nipping hands of my 3 yr old niece

I just had my 2.5 year old niece at my house for Christmas and had the idea of having her be the one to feed Moab, our 8 month old puppy.

I had her tell him Sit and Stay before she fed him. Of course, I was right there backing up the commands with the non-verbal cues we've taught him until he got the message to listen to her but it really seemed to help him understand his place in the pack, even if it was only for a few days.

We also played Hide-n-Seek. If Champ has a good Stay, this works well and it can be a training tool if you need to reinforce his stay. I had Bethany tell him Sit / Stay, then we'd go hide. We'd call Moab to us and he'd get rewarded by my niece for finding us and lots of praise from me for behaving properly with her when excited.

Anything you can think of like this that will help Champ understand that he has to respect your niece just as he does you. Having her practice NILIF for play time with him or any attention from her will likely help a lot as well.
